a whisper in the night

he drifted into my life and took

that which I did not know I could offer

from his neck, my heart now dangles

a fractured token of love once felt

and from the void whence his prize once dwelt

comes only the forlorn echoes of thrums now lost

desolation of the soul, despoilment of sincerity

these were his only valediction
